CONSERVATIVE AND EX-LABOUR COUNCILLORS QUIT PARTIES TO JOIN LIB DEMS

4.48.25pm GMT Fri 23rd Mar 2007

A Conservative councillor in Torbay has switched to the Lib Dems. John Hanley stated that with the Conservative elected Mayor closing care homes, selling off amenities and generally treating every serious issue confronting the area as a joke, he no longer felt comfortable within the Party. Meanwhile, in Rochdale, a long-serving former Labour councillor who quit the party in January has announced plans to stand for the Liberal Democrats in May's elections. Terry Smith said: "Dozens of areas across Rochdale are benefiting from the type of community campaigning that the Lib Dems excel in."

More and more people are recognising what a viable alternative party the Liberal Democrats are !!
