Local Liberal Democrats become Governors

Cllr. Tony Ford cycles to meetings

Three Fylde Liberal Democrats have joined school governing bodies during the last few weeks. Prof. Bill Winlow enjoyed his first meeting of Governors at Lea Community Primary School, whilst Cllr. Tony Ford has met up with staff and pupils at Mayfield Primary School on a recent visit as 'new boy'. Tony is no stranger to Governing Bodies, having served for 17 years as Headteacher in two Lancashire schools. He says, "I am looking forward to offering my experience and expertise to support the work of Governors, headteacher and staff, which I hope will benefit the learning experiences of local pupils."

Bob Fielding, with many years of Boardroom experience in the engineering and technical sector through his work as Technical Director at Dudley Industries Ltd. in Lytham, has joined the Governing Body of LSA's Technology and Performing Arts College. Bob says

"Having attended my first Governors meeting, I was pleasantly surprised by its

open nature and friendly atmosphere.I was assigned my first task recently and found this to be very interesting and quite a challenge. I look forward to putting my management experience to good use over the 4 years of my term of office at this exciting School."

Prof. Bill Winlow also has substantial experience in the education sector.He was Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Chair on Leeds City Council and also served for ten years as a governor of one of the largest Comprehensive Schools in the city.

"I have worked in the education sector for most of my life" said Prof Winlow, "and I look forward to working with the staff and parents. I hope that my experience from elsewhere will be of benefit to the school," he added.
